History:
Cohasset, the railway village of Bass Brook Township, received its name from the town of Cohasset on the east coast of Massachusetts. It is an Indian word, meaning, as noted by Henry Gannett, "fishing promontory," "place of pines," or "young pine trees." A post office was established in 1892; the village was incorporated on February 20, 1902; in 1916 the village of Cohasset and Bass Brook Township were separated; in 1957 residents voted again to become one governmental unit; in 1975 the merger was dissolved, with Bass Brook incorporating as a city in 1992 and Cohasset remaining the post office.
