Pokegama Golf Course, Grand Rapids, is one of the finest municipal golf courses in Minnesota. Originally a nine-hole layout with sand greens, it was completely rebuilt into an excellent 18 hole test on the shores of Pokegama Lake in 1977. Designed by Brauer & Associates in 1977 along with some remodeling by Joel Goldstrand in 1994, this 6,481 yard, par-71 offers breathtaking views of Pokegama Lake, rolling terrain, mature trees, water, abundant bunkering and severely undulating greens.

course was built on hilly terrain with tree-lined fairways and large greens.
Holes #5 and #8 have water hazards to avoid, and sand bunkers are present on
seven of the nine holes. The course is located at the base of the Quadna

Sugarbrooke Golf Course is located at Sugar Lake Lodge, 12 miles southwest of Grand Rapids. This beautiful 18-hole layout presents golfers with many unique combinations of challenge and charm. It has quickly become a favorite destination of many who seek great golf and a relaxed north woods environment. Sugarbrooke is a par 71 golf course on 6,534 yards of gently rolling terrain with woods, water and bunkers all contributing to its variety and quality. It was designed by Joel Goldstrand and opened in 1995. |

Wendigo Golf Club opened for play in 1995. After just one season, it was ranked the 8th Best Public Golf Course in Minnesota by Golf Digest Magazine. The course is located just a few miles southeast of Grand Rapids on 255 acres of land. Open for play in 1995, this 6756 yard course is a par-71 or 72 depending on what hole you play as your fourth, the par-3 or the par-4. The course features dramatic elevation changes, water hazards, huge pine trees, abundant bunkering and large undulating greens.

The Wilderness isn't primitive. Along with other modern facilities, The Edge also has a beautiful golf course. Known as the Edge of the Wilderness Golf Course, it is a regulation-sized nine-hole course. Some of its modern facilities include fifteen motorized carts, clubs for rent, a driving range (the course managers retrieve the balls), and a beautiful log clubhouse. The course has a par 36 (par 3 to 5 individually), and a total yardage of 2963 yards. Their hours are 7 a.m. to dark (non-members must begin play by 6 p.m.). Summer prices in the 1998 season were $11.00 for nine holes or $15.00 for the entire day. The clubhouse has snack food and sodas available for purchase. |
