History: Remer Township, and the earlier Remer post office and railway village, were named in honor of E. N. and William P. Remer, brothers, of whom the former was treasurer and manager of the Reishus-Remer Land Company of Grand Rapids, and the latter was the first postmaster here. The city of Remer, sections 1 and 2, was incorporated as a village on January 12, 1912, and separated from the township on June 23, 1914. The post office began in 1904, along with a sawmill and several stores, and a station of the Soo Line Railroad.

The
Chippewa was the first National Forest established east of
the Mississippi. The Forest boundary encompasses 1.6 million
acres, of which over 666,325 acres are managed by the USDA Forest
Service. Aspen, birch, pines, balsam fir and maples blanket
the uplands. Water is abundant, with over 1300 lakes, 923
miles of rivers and streams, and 400,000 acres of wetlands.
Quality,
up-to-the-minute health care that is close to home ... is important
to all people of our region. Through our 25 clinics, hospitals

Balsam
Bay Resort is a place where you can play or relax with the whole
family. We are located in the Chippewa National Forest, on the southeast
bay of one of the best fishing lakes in Northern Minnesota, beautiful
Big Sand Lake, about 2 miles west of Remer, Minnesota. We are sure

Cedar
Beach is located on the north shore of beautiful Thunder Lake between
the towns of Remer and Longville Minnesota. Our cottages are nestled
on 13 1/2 acres of nicely wooded land. The are fully furnished,
freshly painted and tastefully decorated. Privacy is yours. The
swimming beach has a natural sand bottom and a gradual slope. Thunder
Lake is a clear lake with a clarity of twenty one feet. The Lake
consists of 1,330 acres and 36 miles of scenic shoreline. The lake
depth varies to a maximum depth of 95 feet. There are two islands
in the lake as well as 5 protected bays for great fishing. Thunder
Lake is known for its walleye, northern pike, large/small mouth
bass and pan fish.
We
are located on the shore of Big Sand Lake, in the Chippewa National
Forest, about 2 miles west of Remer, Minnesota. Remer is about 30
miles southwest of Grand Rapids, about 20 miles east of Leech Lake,
or about a three hour drive from Minneapolis. At Cedar Point Resort
you have the choice of seven lakeside, dock level housekeeping cabins,
each with a private dock. A boat ramp is also available. Take the
whole gang fishing, swimming, or just exploring the undeveloped
public land shoreline. Observe the Eagles and Osprey as they search
for a meal.
Look
relaxing to you? How about spending the day on the lake and coming
back to sleep under the stars? You can be here by making a simple
phone call. Come spend your vacation in the middle of a national
forest just three short hours north of the Twin Cities area. Here
you will find crisp mornings with warm sunrises gleaming over the
lake and an abundance of wildlife common to the area. Little Sand
Lake Campground is located 4 1/2 miles northwest of Remer, Minnesota,
with good blacktop road all the way. We are surrounded by many lakes
with public access. Our campground offers a choice between cabin
or campsite lots. The campsites are available with or without (primitive)
hook-ups. We, Jack and Cathy Godlove, have been owners of this quiet,
friendly, privately-owned campground since spring 1989.

Woodland
Bank is a family owned bank with 30 full time employees dedicated
to serving the needs of our local communities for 80 years. The
bank was first chartered in 1920 as the First State Bank in Swatara.
Since then it has been called the Shovel Lake Bank, First State
Bank of Swatara, The Security State Bank of Remer, and Woodland
Bank. It has been moved from Swatara, to Shovel Lake, back to Swatara,
and then to Remer in 1933. During the stay in Remer, the Woodland
Bank has been served by four presidents and has added three branches
(Longville, Cohasset, and Hill City),
