Location: The City of Warba is located
fourteen miles east of Grand Rapids on Highway 2. Warba is a pleasant
community offering essential services such as a City maintained water
and sewer system, a well-organized volunteer fire department, and a
new community center building. Warba supports a variety of commercial
businesses including an eight-room motel, gas and service station,
post office, Laundromat, and a sporting clay and hunting preserve
range. Sportmax Inc., which provides many area employment
opportunities, is an excellent example of a manufacturing firm that
has found success in Warba.

History: Warba, a city in Feeley Township, was incorporated as a village in 1911. A logging site named Siding No. 8, also known as Dickson's Spur for a timber man named Dickson, existed 1891-98 and changed its name to Verna. Verna was located side by side with the village of Feeley (also known as Feeley's Spur), named for the sawmill owner Thomas J. Feeley (died in Duluth May 24, 1935), which was platted in 1904. The Feeley post office operated 1901-10, at which time the U.S. Post Office Department thought Feeley was too close to Foley, and a contest to rename the village was held; A. A. Hall won, selecting the Indian word warbasibi, which has been variously interpreted as "resting place" or "white swan," the latter being Wabiziwa or Waiba, converted to Warba; the Great Northern Railway changed the depot name from Verna to Warba, thus both Verna and Feeley became Warba.
